God vs. Science
Acts 17:24-28 The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by
human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit
the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and
find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, “We are his offspring."
This is a debate for the ages. For the Christian, all science is faith-based. They believe in creationism and see evidence of God in the order and governance of
the universe. There is evidence of intelligent design in the incredible complexities even in the simplest forms of life. As one Christian scientist said, “The chances that
life just appeared by accident are about the same as a tornado that rips through a junk yard and assembles a fully functional 747 aircraft.” Christians are more concerned with
“why” God created us as opposed to “how”. For the non-believer, faith is foolishness. There is no proof that God exists and all life developed over time through random
mutations and factors in nature. My problem with the theory of evolution is that it too requires faith. No one has actually observed, first hand, the entire process of
evolution since it is so gradual. To believe in this theory takes a good measure of faith. And faith is the very thing science equates with foolishness. Consider that no
scientist has ever been able to disprove the existence of God. We are limited in our understanding of an infinitely powerful God. God IS science! Science is God’s creative
handiwork. He created it all--- including all that we need to survive and thrive. 1 Timothy 4:4“For everything God created is good”. Science is nothing without the
scientist but God is still God without us. We need Him, He doesn’t need us. He created us so that He could have fellowship with us. That’s the why--- and the why is more
important than the how… God must get a laugh at how so many of us are trying to understand all the hows. Just consider the silly looking platypus and you’ll have proof that
God has a wonderful sense of humor. When one considers the vast universe, it is possible that life exists elsewhere ,and if it does, those that disregard the intelligent design
of the universe will find their problems compounded. The God of the Bible is all powerful and all knowing . Jeremiah 32:17 Lord you made the heavens and the earth by your
great power and outstretched arm. We are not in the same league and we aren’t going to understand how God works—we must rely on faith. Take a look around at His handiwork
sometime today and do so with awe to the glory of God. Psalm 19:1 “ The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”
Confidence, NOT Arrogance
John 8:54 “Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.” In the dictionary, Confidence is defined as having assurance and Arrogance is defined as self-importance. There is a clear difference, but when someone is making a judgment on your character it is easy to mistake one from the other.
